Wisteria IS lovely. Just make sure that your support framework that it will grow on is extremely sturdy (metal is best) as it will take down weak structures (wood arbors, etc.) over time.
living in illinois, we only see a very occasional wisteria. i was once called to fly into charlotesville, va. to do a garden design. as we drove to her home i was absolutely astounded at the wisteria everywhere. she must of known from my gasping that i was enamored by this plant as she shouted 'don't get any ideas, this is a weed here!' debra

It is pretty, but in this part of the country (NC) we have to work really hard to keep it under control. It is VERY invasive and will take over everything if you're don't stay on top of it. Once it's established it's very hard to get rid of, so I just have to keep trimming it 4 or 5 times a year. I would never plant it on purpose! But it might not be that bad where you are?
It's beautiful, but if it's invasive...I'm staying away from it. I've been fighting wild morning glory for a few years now...so hard to get rid of! I do love all of the pictures you posted!
I have it dripping all over a backyard pergola & it's one of my very favorite things to bloom when the warmer weather hits! your photos are luscious! :) chris
Hi there Megan, There are different varietals when it comes to Wisteria. Most of the vines that you showed in your photos are the same type... and yup, they can be invasive...but so beautiful. Four years ago we planted an evergreen Wisteria over our front door arch. (didn't know there was such a thing) (we are in Dallas) It doesn't bloom when all of the other Wisteria bloom, but it blooms mid to late Summer and does so continuously. The blooms are a deeper purple and very fragrant. I would look into what your options are before planting. Have fun. Marybeth

It is very pretty, but actually an invasive vine. If you do plant, make sure to keep it contained...plant so it cannot grow into other things.
