House Beautiful is letting go of some old decor rules that they think can be tossed out.
See any that you will incorporate?
Old Rule: Use only one type of wood in a room.
Old Rule: Furniture styles should match.
Old Rule: Vintage pieces are best left as is.
Old Rule: For a small bedroom, use small furniture.
Old Rule: Dining chairs should be part of a matching set.
Old Rule: Children's art is for the fridge or a box in the top of a closet.
I am incorporating that furniture does not have to match, that vintage can be changed, and to mix up dining chairs {and currently searching for a bench}.
Have a great weekend!

I love the children's art!! I wish I had of kept some of my four daughter's artwork from their younger years. At least Jamie painted me some pictures recently!
These are great! I think I agree with everything, in most cases. The children's art is so obvious, but egh, my stack of my children's artwork I intend to frame it getting larger and larger...
Hmm...I'll have to think about these for a minute! I'm always a fan of mixing and matching types of furniture.
Love these! Although, I have to say, I would probably have matching dining chairs. I just prefer that. But the rest - bring it on! xo
I love how decorating has evolved. Years ago, I wouldn't imagine having furniture that didn't match! Now, creativity is really accepted and beautiful. Love that.
BTW, I featured the Texas duplex on my blog on Wednesday. Just loved it.
Love the dining table with different seating especially the bench. Have always kids artwork should be hung where you can enjoy it and since we don't have a magnetic fridge I have an art wall in the basement and laundry room!

I'm all for throwing these all out. I have my three year old son's art framed and hung all over the house. Its looks like abstract masterpieces!
I love mixing furniture of different styles and materials. I think matched sets just look static. Thanks for sharing these images.
Megan,
Something about breaking the rules gets me all giddy. lol

That's supposed to be a small bedroom? Wow, my master is about that big! Well, it's beautifully decorated anyway.
