My sister and her husband will hopefully be closing on their new home this week! The home they are purchasing has a nice layout and good bones, but there are some areas that need a few aesthetic makeovers. The kitchen is one of the areas they would like to tackle, so here are few inspiration images. The kitchen is large enough to add a freestanding island (but not as large as the one's shown).
And to my surprise, she is thinking black for the cabinetry finish. For those who have black cabinetry, please share any pros & cons.

I'm a huge fan of white kitchens, but that photo featuring the red cabinetry really caught my eye. Very cool, indeed!
Hey!!! I hope to put my house for sale the end of this year or the first of next if the market picks up. I REALLY want you to help me make it beautiful. I am so fortunate to have the home and decor that I have, but I want something new. I feel so spoiled saying I want to start all over, but I do and I want you to be my expert help, ok? It will be bigger so there is room for the munchkin to run around as she gets older so we will have plenty of space to experiment with styles and colors.
Oh, man, if you have that much space for a kitchen, it's hard to see how you could make any mistakes with a remodeling. Well, you could, I suppose, if you go with whatever is "hot." Fads come and go, and that's OK with clothing--gives the wife an excuse to buy something new! But it's hell for a kitchen remodeling that has cost forty thousand dollars or more. My wife always says, "stick with the classics and you won't grow tired of them." Just my opinion. But I wish you every success. Sounds like a fun project.

I'm super pumped on getting to remodel the kitchen, I can't wait. It's not horrific now, but it's pretty bad. I'm loving that I'll have a island now too! Need counter space!!!

I love the inspiration. Haven't tried the black cabinets, but it could be lovely.
I do understand why the choice of black finish for the kitchen but now I have seen the red and it would be difficult for me to choose.

I just love the black cabinets! I recently painted my builder, orange, oak cabinets black and I love them! I have kept everything else light and bright to make sure things don't look dark. Also I have to quickly wipe down my cabinets once a month because of dust. It's the same thing with my black furniture. I hope your sister's cabinets turn out just like she hopes!
